The problem
The hardest areas of technical accounting — ASC 606 revenue contracts, ASC 842 leases, reconciliations — are still done by hand. Senior accountants burn 4–40+ hours per material contract on judgment-heavy memos. Output quality is inconsistent across firms and engagements, and the work doesn't scale to the volume of contracts modern businesses produce.
The build
Benthic is a single platform of specialized agents, each focused on a workflow controllers and reviewers already recognize. ASC 842 lease automation. The ASC 606 Revenue Contract Analyzer, which takes a contract bundle and produces a defensible, journal-ready determination in minutes — exec summary, full 5-step memo with clause-level citations, and a structured Excel schedule. Agent-assisted reconciliation. More modules to follow. Every conclusion is grounded in a source clause; every judgment call is tagged for human review.
Currently building
Active development at benthic-roan.vercel.app. The ASC 606 Revenue Contract Analyzer is in flight, with deep playbooks for SaaS, professional services, and software licensing. ASC 842 and the reconciliation module sit alongside it on the roadmap. Designed by people who have done the work themselves.
